a little bit confused.
5-7 letters from
1 current manager
2 PhD advisor
3 MS advisor in China (member of editorial board of one major journal)
4 department head (currently the head of a larger center sponsord by DOE) (
member of editorial board of one major journal)

5 from a company consultant (IEEE fellow). He cannot be "independent"
because he is a consultant to us. Right?

6 an independent professor (advisor of PhD advisor and friend of MS advisor,
member of editorial board of 3 major journals)

7 the last one must be from an indepedent in industry???

Does this list sounds weak?
Which one in the above list can be deleted so that I can add others?
possible replacement:
r1 from Japan (big guy in the field, friend of MS advisor)
r2 from UK (friend of PhD advisor)
r3 from industry (someone recommended by 5)
r4 from a really big guy in the field and industry (probably with help from
5)
