Then my boss said "are you yelling at me? or someone else? " in my cube. I denied but felt quite disturbing. It's like a career-suicide , isn't it? Time to change a job? Never thought about this as I performed quite well here. Anyhow, feeling bad now and not sure how to handle this next Monday. Maybe I will just pretend that nothing happened. And we joked with each other a lot normally. I think he said that spontaneously but I could be wrong. So shall I give up all my previous efforts and leave just because of one accident? My company don't have lay-offs so far and it may not happen at least this year. Looks like it's hard to find a similar deal nowadays... I know I sort of yelled at you. I did not mean it. Hope you do not mind. 发信人: xanadu (露珠), 信区: Working 标 题: Re: update Re: Yell at boss 发信站: BBS 未名空间站 (Mon Feb 9 20:30:47 2009) believe it or not, "creative vulnerability" is written in communication theory. I heard it from a communication seminar given by a former performer. She used Hillary Clinton's tears on the stage as an example when she won New Hampshire primary. That changed people's perception on her coldness. If you have passion on your work, you will get emotional, that's no doubt. So in order to turn around the situation, the key is to let your boss know, the yelling (or anything emotional) is not about him, it's about the work. You care about the work serious enough so that you couldn't help to feeling frustrated when things were not going right. (But don't use it too often :-) ) I didn't do anything specific after my incident. Definitely not to say sorry . I just keep getting my work done well. Being nice to everyone and my boss. In the performance review, my boss wrote a lot of good words about my work, sometimes sounded even exaggerated to me, so I smiled and joked back. And he said with a kind of relief "now you're laughing..." After that, we became very open to each other and I feel safe to share my emotions with him. (But again, not too much. I think it is equally important to stay at a right distance with your boss.) hope this helps. 【 在 AprilAzure (double A) 的大作中提到: 】 : haha, I like it - "Creative Vulnerability" :-) : My boss just stopped by and said "I saw your smile back - how's your weekend : blah blah..."
